Elliptical Rotor Sugar Pumps

General Characteristics

under constructionBiodod has been manufacturing these pumps for over 25 years for the five factories of the Hellenic Sugar Industry. They are volumetric and positive displacement pumps and are designed for the transfer of high viscosity products that contain sugar crystals, such as Massecuite and Molasses. The special design of these pumps ensures that the sugar crystals contained in the transferred product are not damaged.

Operation Principle

under constructionThe pump has an elliptical shaped rotor which rotates in a cylindrical casing. The pumped product is trapped in the space between the elliptical rotor and the casing, and is carried from the suction port to the discharge port. The sealing arm which follows the surface of the rotor, directs the liquid towards the discharge port and keeps its contact with the rotor assisted by a spring. The spring force is not necessary above 2 bar, because the contact is assisted by the discharge pressure. The suction port is special designed to ease the flow into the pump.
